The Big Reveal …
15 July 2014
We’re all expecting from Howland Reed is
… not coming.
Let’s go back to The Tower of Joy on that fateful day. After the little skirmish, four people are left?—?Eddard Stark, a dying Lyanna Stark, Howland Reed and possibly, Rhaeghar Targaryen’s newborn son. And as we all hypothesize, Lyanna made her brother, Eddard promise to take care of his son and protect his true identity from the rest of the world. True to his word, Eddard never shared his secret with another living soul till he was ‘murdered’.
Now, as Howland Reed was the third survivor to leave the Tower that day, we are assuming that, he will reveal the secret about Rhaegar’s third child, Jon Snow a.k.a Aemon Targaryen (Yeah. That’s his real name. We’ll come to this later.) But everyone seems to comfortably forget that, if Howland was there at the Tower at that time, Lyanna would’ve made him, her childhood friend, swear to secrecy as well. And Howland Reed, given the high opinion Ned had of him, doesn’t seem like a guy who breaks promises made on someone’s deathbed.
“Oh Nooooo! Then how will all us ASOIAF fans get the closure we so badly need?”
We will get our reveal from another Stark; the Greenseer Stark. And GRRM already gave us a sneak peek in A Dance with Dragons. During Bran’s first greenseeing ‘trip’, he sees his father, Ned, bowed in front of the Godswood, praying,
“… let them be brothers, with only love between them, and let my lady wife find it in her heart to forgive …”
And then Bran tries to interrupt his father,
… The rest of his father’s words were drowned out by a sudden clatter of wood on wood. Eddard Stark dissolved like mist in a morning sun. So, what were the rest of his father’s words?
“You know nothing Jon Snow”
Haha. But in all seriousness, I believe this is how we will get our big reveal; after Bran perfects his skills. But I do see GRRM giving Howland Reed a POV chapter, to get our hopes up, only to kill him off in the end and toying with our emotions for a few more chapters before this happens.
